Speering, Alvin E. “Sparky”
Alvin E. “Sparky” Speering, age 84, of Appleton, died peacefully at Cherry Meadows, with his family by his side. He was born April 23, 1923, to the late John and Lillian (Gumz), in Shawano county. During WW II he served 29 months in the Aleutian Islands. After discharge from the Army in 1945, Alvin worked at Kimberly Clark Corporation-Kimberly Plant, for 42 years. During that time he also owned and operated Northside Garage in Little Chute for many years. He was always happy to be under the hood of a car for friends and family. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his famous “Sparky-isms”. He was a faithful member of St. John Ev. Lutheran Church, Center. Alvin is survived by his wife of 60 years, Fern I. (Nordwig) Speering; a son Dan (Linda) Speering, Appleton and their children, daughter, Stephanie (Scott) Clark, Combined Locks and their son, Hayden Clark and Amanda Speering and her fiancé, Jeff Kopetsky, Appleton; a daughter Cindy Speering, FL; sisters, Dolores Stillman, Combined Locks; Dorothy Schultz, Spokane, WA; Marjorie Siebers, Shawano; brothers-in-law, Milton (Mabel) Nordwig, Shawano; Ralph (Bernice) Nordwig, Appleton; David (Shirley) Nordwig, Clintonville; Rheinhart Teske, Shawano; sisters-in-law, Doris (John) Raymaker, Combined Locks; Inez Schilling, Appleton. He was preceded in death by a brother Ervin, brothers-in-law, Wally Stillman, Ruben Sieber, Ted Schultz, Evan Schilling and Ralph Gumtz, sisters-in-law, Mae Gumtz and Betty Teske. The Christian funeral for Alvin will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, May 11, 2007, at ST. JOHN EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, Highway 47 North, with Reverend Jeffrey Suhr officiating. Entombment will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park. Friends may call at the church on Friday, from 9:00 am, until the time of the service. A memorial fund is being established.
Dad – you were more than a prefect dad, you were always my favorite “Buddy”. Someday I’ll see you again and we can finish our discussions on your favorite subject-cars. You are in a place that will offer you everything you deserve. Love you and miss you, Dan

The family would like to thank ThedaCare Hospice and especially Ken whose weekly visits meant so much to Sparky.
