Age 83, passed away on Saturday, January 1, 2005 at a local nursing home. Alma was born in Oshkosh on October 21, 1921, daughter of the late John and Anna (Paffenroth) Fisher. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and baking. Everyone will recall her generosity as she shared her fresh baked goodies with her family and friends. Many will also remember Alma’s charitable spirit – not only did she raise a family of five of her own children, she also assisted several area families in the care of their disabled loved ones. She offered private home care to elderly friends, and volunteered in the kitchens of area group homes, again sharing her wonderful gifts from the kitchen. Alma found peace in living near the lake and spending time in the great outdoors. She was the loving mother of five children: Ralph (Elaine) Arndt of Oshkosh; Rosemary A. Lucas of Grayslake, Illinois; Carol J. Arndt of Menasha; Michael (Janet) Arndt of Neenah; and William L. Arndt of San Diego, California; her six grandchildren meant the world to her and they, too, will miss her: Daniel (Gina) Arndt, Amy (Frank) Wysocki, James Lucas, Frederick (Magali) Lucas, Jason Arndt, and Kristin (Mike) Williams. Alma is further survived by six great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and by a sister: Joyce Taggart of Menasha. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Fred Fisher, sisters Anna (Ray) Giese, Emma (Howard) Hill, and Beatrice Fisher, and by a brother-in-law Jerome “Trigger” Taggart.
A memorial service to remember Alma’s life will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, January 5, 2005 at FAITH LUTHERAN CHURCH, 601 E. Glendale Avenue in Appleton with Rev. Paul Brinkman officiating. Friends may call at the church on Wednesday from 12:00 Noon until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Alma’s name.
“The blessings you have given to us will shine, as God put them in you for a reason…..”
The family would like to extend their gratitude to everyone at Franciscan Care Center. Alma and her family received wonderful tender and loving around-the-clock care, and will always be grateful. Thank you all so very much.
