Alice Running, formerly of Appleton, went to be with Jesus and the rest of her loved ones on Tuesday morning, December 11, 2007. She was 97. Alice was born in Appleton on May 8, 1910, daughter of the late James and Caroline (Weinfurter) Vanderheiden. She was a graduate of the Appleton High School, and after a bit of business schooling, began work at the Kimberly-Clark Corporation. On June 26, 1933, she married Mark Running, and with the birth of her first child, she left the workforce to raise a family. Her much loved family provided her with the greatest joys in her life. They include six loving children: James (Shirley) Running of Rhinelander; Barbara (James) Kranzusch of Appleton; John (Jude) Running of Appleton; Patricia (Robert) Rueckl of Appleton; Thomas (Sue) Running of Greenville; and Gerald (Bev) Running of Appleton. There are also eighteen grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Mark Running, infant children Mary Alice and Joseph, by sisters Dorothy Vanderheiden and Bessie (Sister Capistran), and by brothers Carl, James, Martin, and Ray Vanderheiden and their wives.
The funeral liturgy for Alice will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 E. Fremont Street in Appleton with Fr. Norm Krutzik officiating. A private entombment will be held at Appleton’s St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 11:00 AM until the hour of the liturgy at 1:00 PM.
