Alice F. Rowlands

July 5, 1910 — October 13, 2006

ROWLANDS, ALICE F. (nee Fellenz)

Alice Rowlands of Appleton, age 96, was born into eternal life on Friday, October 13, 2006 at Appleton Medical Center.

Alice was born July 5, 1910 in Campbellsport to the late John and Mary (Schmidt) Fellenz. Shortly after her birth the family moved to a farm near New London where many happy memories were created.

Alice graduated from UW-Oshkosh where she met her future husband, Ralph Rowlands. She taught Junior High School in Lomira for 5 years and traveled to Europe prior to marriage. Alice and Ralph were married on August 10, 1935 at the Fellenz home in New London. The couple moved frequently in the first few years of marriage, but both of their children were born in Richland Center.

Prior to settling in Appleton in 1958, the family spent 10 years in Chippewa Falls where Alice was a substitute teacher and Sunday School Superintendent.

In Appleton, Alice was a long time, active member of the First United Methodist Church where she held many positions of service and leadership. She was also an active member of PEO for 58 years. Alice was an avid reader with a particular interest in historical biographies. She spent over 40 years with her book club. She was a skilled bridge player and eagerly anticipated her bi-weekly bridge club gatherings where she was the oldest participant. Alice loved to travel and visited 49 of the 50 United States.

Alice was a very warm, loving person who treasured spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed hosting family dinners and was an excellent cook. Her love was particularly evident in her relationship with her special daughter Ruth Ann. Alice loved and was loved by all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her daughter: Ruth Ann Rowlands, Appleton; son: John (Carol)Rowlands, Wautoma, WI and Murrieta, CA; four grandchildren: Roree VanDuyne, Appleton; Scott (Lynne) Rowlands, Aliso Viejo, CA; Ryan (Stephanie) Rowlands, Alexandria, VA and Kari (Michael) Carter, Murrieta, CA; eight great grandchildren: Tania, Zach, Jacob, Alyssa, Kristin, Kai, Heulwen and Jaedon; sister-in-law: Gloria Miner, Oshkosh. Alice is further survived by many nieces, nephews and other dear friends.
