Alice Steif, age 99 of Appleton, passed peacefully at Cherry Meadows Hospice in Appleton on Monday morning, May 8, 2017. Alice was born in Wausau on January 1, 1918, daughter of the late Emil and Elisabeth (Timm) Doede. On June 12, 1948, she married Carl Steif in the Town of Easton. He preceded her in death in 1991.
After high school she worked as a secretary at Underwood Veneer in Wausau and then moved to Fond du Lac after getting married. She worked at Ray E. Woods Floral in Fond du Lac as a bookkeeper. Alice also worked at Highland's School in Appleton for several years as an aide for children with special needs.
Alice and Carl enjoyed playing cards with friends from Fond du Lac and Appleton. They enjoyed camping and traveling out west. They also traveled to Germany and took an Alaskan cruise. She loved to bake sweet treats much to the delight of her family. She loved to garden and was especially fond of red roses. Alice was also a volunteer at the voting polls in the Town of Grand Chute. She was active at Faith Lutheran Church in Bible Study, Ladies Guild and as a Sunday School Teacher.
She is survived by her three loving children: Charles (Karen) Steif of Neenah, Sharon (James) Lauer of Neenah, and Allen Steif of Appleton. There are also five grandchildren: Eric (Jill) Steif, Andrew Steif, Jeffrey (Tara) Lauer, Christopher (Tamie) Lauer, and Rebecca (Ross) Jensen. Alice also leaves behind six great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren, as well as many other relatives, loved ones, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her step-mother Anna Bartlett Doede, her husband Carl in 1991, and her seven brothers: Willie (Ella), Louie (Ruth), Edwin (Renore), Carl (Elsie), Arnold (Dorothy), Herbert (Vivian) and Walter (Jennette).
The funeral service for Alice will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, May 12, at Faith Lutheran Church, 601 E. Glendale Avenue in Appleton, with Rev. Daniel Thews officiating. Interment will be at Highland Memorial Park. Relatives and friends are invited to gather directly at the church on Friday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been set up for Faith Lutheran Radio Ministry.
