Sonny passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Oakridge Gardens, Menasha. He was born and raised in Menasha, the son of John and Beatrice (Felch) Weber on February 5, 1942, and went to Menasha High School. After graduation, he worked as a mechanic at Hoffmeister Machine Shop in Neenah. He could fix nearly anything, and was very generous with his time and talents. Whether you needed wiring done, drywall installed, a lawnmower looked at, or gutters de-iced in the middle of winter, Sonny was your go-to guy.
He cringed at most nicknames, but somewhere along the line “Sonny” just stuck, and those who knew him would say it suited him. Sonny was a fixture at The Red Liner and City Limits, and will be deeply missed by the regulars there.
Sonny is survived by his children: Andy Zastrow, Chad Weber, and Holly Pappenfuss; brother, Gary; sisters: Marlene Aschenbrenner, Karen Lee, and Betty (Bill) Cobb; grandchildren: Michael and Brandon Weber; several nieces and nephews; and very special friends Mike and Joanne “JoJo” Hoks, who were family to him.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law: Ralph Aschenbrenner and David Lee; a sister-in-law, Dianne Weber; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Wichmann Funeral Home, Laemmrich Chapel, 312 Milwaukee St., Menasha. Visitation will be on Saturday at the chapel from 9:00 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be established.
We’d like to thank the staff at Oakridge Gardens and ThedaCare Medical Center, Neenah, for their tireless care during Sonny’s last few weeks of life.
