Age 92, died peacefully on Monday, February 14, 2005 at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Center. She was born on June 25, 1912 in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, moving to Appleton as a young child. Agnes married Eric H. Gelbke on June 30, 1929 in Appleton, Wisconsin. Eric preceded her in death on November 5, 1992. Agnes devoted her life to her husband, her family and her home. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Agnes enjoyed the special friendship of her neighbors, Jon and Pat Kester and their golden retrievers, Sophie and Claire, with whom she shared her nightly popcorn.
Agnes is survived by two daughters, Joann (Eugene) VanBoogard and their children, Kathy (Kebin) Schmitz, Julie (Jim) Weyenberg, David (Karen) VanBoogard and Sara VanBoogard; Dolores (William) Gear and their children, Linda (Steven) Stoll, Steven (Tressa) Gear, Alan Gear (special friend, Kay Franke), Kaelin Gelbke; nine great-grandchildren: Nicholas and Lucas Weyenberg, Alicia and Andrew VanBoogard, Lacy Gear, Brian, Jennifer and Jason Stoll and Becky Brown; three great-great-grandchildren: Tyler Balcomb, Megan Stoll, Wyatt Brown; brother-in-law, Carl (Evelyn) Gelbke and sister-in-law Catherine Gelbke. She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Eric C. Gelbke; her parents, Valentine and Mary (Wolf) Muthig; a brother, Alex Muthig; three sisters: Theresa (Charles) Main, Marie (Henry) Sauer and Anna Muthig; brothers-in-law, Paul (Dorothy) Gelbke, Alfred (Mardelle) Gelbke, William Gelbke; sisters-in-law, Helen (John) Indra, Gertrude (Julius) Wismer and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, February 17, 2005 at TRI COUNTY CHAPEL, with Rev. John McFadden, First Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday, February 17 from 4:30 p.m. until the time of the service. The interment will be held at Highland Memorial Park, Appleton. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established for First Congregational United Church of Christ, Appleton. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Laura Pringel and the staff at Oakridge Gardens Nursing Center for their loving care of Agnes.
