Age 97, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 9, 2004 at St. Paul Elder Services. Agatha was born in Wrightstown on March 12, 1907, daughter of the late Henry and Minnie (Weyers) Verhagen. Many will remember Aggie for her many years of employment at King’s Variety, retiring in 1979. She enjoyed gardening, caring for her yard, home decorating, and playing cards with friends. Foremost in her life was her loving family and her faith life. She treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren and was a longtime and faithful member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. There, she was a member of the Altar Society, Prayer Partners, and faithfully attended daily mass.
Survivors include four children: Judy (Homer) Savard of Racine; William (Julie) Nussbaum of Appleton; Janice Giallourakis of Starkville, Mississippi; Mark (Debbie) Nussbaum of Kaukauna; a daughter-in-law: Kay Nussbaum of Green Bay; twelve grandchildren: Robert (Lois) Savard, Carol (Ed) Ziesemer, Homer F. (Julie) Savard, Leigh (Brian) Redfield, Tricia (Tom) Stout, Amanda Nussbaum, Nicholas Giallourakis, Gregory Giallourakis, Tanner Nussbaum, Tanya Nussbaum, Ashley Nussbaum, and Dave Holloway; seven great-grandchildren: Joseph, Alex, and Annie Savard; Amy Ziesemer, Benjamin and Christine Savard, and Jacob; three brothers: Sylvester (Minerva) Verhagen of Kimberly, Richard (Monnie) Verhagen of Kaukauna, and Fr. Norbert Verhagen of California; a sister: Millie (Erv) DeBruin of Kimberly; two sisters-in-law: Margie Verhagen of Kaukauna, and Gladys Verhagen of Kaukauna. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. Agatha was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray in 1982, her son Roger in 1985, and infant brother Francis, brothers Ben Verhagen, Edward (Rose) Verhagen, Larry Verhagen, Lloyd (Doris) Verhagen, and Raymond Verhagen; and sisters Martha (Ignatius) Schuh and Ceil (Norb) Muelemans.
The funeral liturgy for Agatha will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 12, 2004 at HOLY CROSS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 309 Desnoyer Street in Kaukauna with Fr. Jack Mullarkey officiating. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4 – 7 PM and again at the church on Thursday after 10 AM. There will be a parish prayer and scripture service to conclude the visitation Wednesday at 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the wonderful staff at St. Paul Elder Services. Mom felt so much at home while in your care – your many kindnesses will never be forgotten. Thanks also to Agatha’s friends Ann and Janet for all of the personal assistance you offered Mom over the years. We will never forget all that you have done.
