Adeline B. Schleitwiler

March 12, 1915 — August 21, 2007

Adeline Schleitwiler, age 92, was called home to the waiting arms of her Lord on Tuesday, August 21, 2007 at the Appleton Medical Center. She was born in Appleton on March 12, 1915, one of eleven children born to Herman and Amelia (Juhnke) Schultz. As a young woman, she married Alfred Kellner, and before all of the children were grown, he passed away. That left Adeline as a young widow with some young children. Today, her children reflect on what a strong woman she was, what a wonderful mother she was, and what a difficult time she must have had in those days. Surely, her faith in the Lord’s promises carried her through the tough times. Later, after the children were grown, she married Carl Schleitwiler; he also preceded her in death, in 1992. For the past several years, Adeline had been a resident at Rennes Health Center in Appleton. She was a favorite of the residents and staff alike. She was appointed as the president of the Rennes Residents’ Association, and was also given Rennes’ Shining Star Award. This award is given to the most active, vibrant, and beloved resident. She enjoyed board games, SCRABBLE, cards, bingo, and other activities with her fellow residents at Rennes. Adeline was a woman of deep faith, and a longtime and faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Appleton. Daily, she read from her prayer book and her Bible.

She leaves behind a daughter: Ruth (Jack) Van Landghen of Appleton; two sons: Ron (Pat) Kellner of Seminole, Florida and Dick (Darlene) Kellner of Tega Cay, South Carolina; a step-daughter: Nancy (Fred) Gilbert of Rockford, Illinois; her beloved grandchildren:

Mike (Donna) Van Landghen, Jul Van Landghen, Deb Van Landghen, Cindy (Craig) Szezepanik, Karrie Hoglund, Gina (Kevin) Niemann, Angela (Dr. Jon) Stanford, Dawn (Brian) Hagle, and Scott (Sandy) Meyer; eleven great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren: Deb, Mary (John), and Lee; five step-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law: Lillian Schultz of Appleton; a special friend at Rennes: Belinda; a very special niece: Elaine Springstroh who faithfully visited Adeline, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Alfred Kellner in 1954 and Carl Schleitwiler in 1992, a son Roger Kellner, a daughter Rose Kellner Kargus, grandsons Jeff Meyer, Martin Kellner, and Russell Kellner, brothers Ervin (Agnes) Schultz, Herman (Laura) Schultz, Wilber Schultz, Edward (Agnes) Schultz, and Harold (Rose) Schultz; and sisters Louise (William) Frahm, Margaret (Harold) Rehfeldt, Minnie (Ray) Vick, Helma (Martin) Stecker, and Ella (Mike) Bergsbaken.

The Christian Funeral for Adeline will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 27, 2007 at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH, 302 N. Morrison Street in Appleton, with Rev. Kenneth Frey and Rev. Ralph Waack officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM and again at the church on Monday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church.

The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Dr Stephen Fuller; Adeline thought the world of him. Thanks also to the nursing staff at Rennes Health Center and Appleton Medical Center, and also to the caregivers at ThedaCare at Home. You all cared for our mom as though she was your very own, and we will never forget your kindness.

Mom – As the years have passed, you became more than just a mother to me – you became my friend. I will miss our daily talks and all the other special times that we shared together. Though you are now at rest with Dad, warm memories will always fill my heart. Love, Ruth.
