Age 78, formerly of Appleton, passed away with her family at her side in Madison on Tuesday, June 30, 2009. She was born in Menasha on May 18, 1931, the daughter of the late Grant and Margaret (Williams) Mader. On May 23, 1953 she married husband of 53 years, Leland “Lee” Maxwell. He preceded her in death on January 18, 2006. Aloha graduated from Appleton High School in June, 1950. She retired early from various retail positions at Gimbel's in October, 1986. Aloha was a member of First United Methodist Church, Appleton. She was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee “Braves” Brewers; enjoyed bowling, making afghans, writing poetry, reading and music. She will be remembered for her very kind and generous heart.
Aloha is survived by her children: Steve Maxwell of Madison and Dawn Maxwell of Beloit; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Russell Smith of New London; niece, Wendy (Franscois) LaCombe of Argentina; nephew, Cory (Jenny) Smith of Texas; adopted daughter, Jeannine “JJ” Evenden of Las Vegas; as well as many cousins and friends; especially Ruth Ann and Don Page, Bob and Dorothy Nelson, Marge and Frank Vanden Boom, Aggie Brantmeier, Kay Tornow, and Donna Reinbold.
Her children would like to thank the staff, caregivers, and Mary Brewer at Oak Park Place Assisted Living Center in Madison for their friendship and outstanding care during the past two years. Mom was proud to call Oak Park Place “home” and had many good friends there.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 6, 2009 at the Star of Hope Chapel in Appleton Highland Memorial Park, 3131 N. Richmond Ave., Appleton, with Rev. Barbara Wells officiating. Friends will be received at the chapel from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Entombment will be in Appleton Highland Memorial Park.
